How to get fit in a no-nonsense manner!

We often keep on running after life and ignore our health. A healthy body is important for a healthy mind. We might slog today and spoil our health to earn some money! But what good is the extra money if we have to again spend it on our health in future.
The world is getting into a mad race and people are just running and running, some for money, some for power, some to capture their desires. The world is loosing its balance. Though technology is on a rise, the quality of life is increasing but the peace of mind is on a windfall.

Thus, its very important to stay calm and focused in life. We should pay adequate importance to our health else we wont be able to make the most of our life. And even if we are busy, we can definitely take out some time for our health by cutting down idle time, unnecessary gossips, time spent on Facebook etc. etc.

I would like to share my example how i lost 18 kgs in 6 months flat just by following some basic rules.
I did not worry about reducing my weight but i focused on being healthy and more active and did certain activities which helped me reduce my weight. And this has certainly made me even more active :)

Hope the following can help some of you.
I reduced my weight from 84 kgs to 66 kgs in 6 months, i have an average Indian height of 5'7".

Now, the steps i took are as follows:

1) Check your diet, a good and nutritious diet is most essential part in your weight loss plan. Cut all fatty food, stop cheese, stop fried food. Eat less of naans, reduce rice intake, completely stop eating maggi. Dont eat too much of cakes etc. I don't say you entirely stop eating such food, but try and reduce its consumption with time. Shift to salads, greens, lettuce, eat chapatis with daal and sabzi, eat hell lot of fruits ( except banana and mango), drink skimmed milk (low-fat) only. Cereals with cold milk can easily be one of the meals in a day. Stop eating sweets, forget about McD, KFC n Pizza hut for sometime :)
Completely abandon fries.
Slowly try and reduce the use of AS!!
AS is a very deadly thing, its Added Sugar, we should minimize the use of Sugar, what ever sugar the body needs should be supplied from natural sources like fructose, sucrose etc. (eat lots of fruits). Drink tea and milk with zero or absolutely less AS.
Get into the habit of checking the calories count of the things you are eating and slowly you will realize that you can control your intake. But, idea is not to eat less, it is to eat healthy and nutritious food. Drinking a lot of water is also must.

2) After, you control your diet. Next most important thing is 'Exercise'. Yes, you need physical workout to drain out the excess fat you have deposited over years. Join a gym (spend at-least 30 mins on treadmill), or jog daily, or play some outdoor sport. But you must and must spend one hour daily working out!! Without this step, you can not lose weight.
3) Now, after you modify your diet a bit and start exercising, you will start to see results. Next thing is daily morning you should have a lemon with warm water and a spoonful of honey, this helps burn fat and keeps the digestion robust. It helped in my case at-least. Next is to replace the need of cold-drinks, shakes, juices etc. have lemon juice with ice-cold water. This helps in burning calories.

Most important thing: stop drinking cold drinks and ready to drink juices (they have a hell lot of sugar and you dont even realize!!)
What you can do it to have fresh juices and have the juices without AS!! (remember AS is a slow poison)
Also eat fruits as and when possible. And if you must drink a coke or a pepsi sometime, go for Diet coke/pepsi.

4) Stop eating butter, reduce ghee intake. Shift to plain chapatis, rotis. Shun paranthas and dosas. Stop eating bread in particular!! Idea is to move yourself to simple and better food. I used to eat salads atleast once a day and used to eat fruits daily. And had fresh juice 2-3 times a day.

5) Next thing is to minimize beer intake, we all know of beer belly ;)

6) Next is what i call is 'Foot philosophy'. Walk as much as you can. I used to walk so much daily, and this continues as a practice. Next is to use staircase as much as you can, i always used to climb down the 5 floors from my office to the ground floor. Same is the practice in my MBA college hostel where i stay on the 6th floor. I also climb up the stairs when i have not eaten anything. Believe me this becomes a habit and it helps save time, energy and keeps you healthy.

Its just an attitude you need to lose weight, i just had fun loosing weight, it was never a compulsion or a trouble. It was just fun. So, without worrying about all what i talked about and slowly inculcating the approaches i mentioned in your daily lives, you all can get healthier :)

PS: I only go for jogging once a week now. I had stopped gym a long time back! I eat almost everything now. But still i walk a lot, use the staircase every time and my weight is around 65 kgs and i am as healthy as ever!!

Wish you a all a healthy life :-)

With love,
Ankit
